Effective Date: 22 September 2026 This Privacy Policy explains how Couplinn ("Couplinn", "we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards personal data on the platform available at https://couplinn.com.
1. Data Controller The data controller for personal data processed through the service is: Couplinn Contact for privacy matters: info@couplinn.com
2. Personal Data We Collect We collect and process the following categories of personal data:
Identity and profile data — name, display name, date of birth, gender, sexual orientation, profile photographs, biographical text. Contact data — email address, and any address, phone number or country of residence you choose to provide. Preference and profile enrichment data — dating preferences, interests, distance and match settings, activity choices. Message and content data — private messages you exchange with other members, reactions, and any content you upload (photographs, gifts sent, etc.). Transaction data — details of purchases you make on the platform, including virtual gifts and premium features. Payment card details are handled by our payment processor and are not stored by us. Technical data — IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device identifiers, session cookies, and log timestamps. Usage data — pages visited, search queries, matches made, features used, and interaction patterns. Support communications — any correspondence you send to support, moderation reports, and appeals. Where you provide us with data described in Article 9 of the UK GDPR (such as sexual orientation or data revealing your religion), we rely on your explicit consent to process that data for matching, subject to your ability to withdraw consent at any time.
3. Lawful Basis for Processing We rely on the following lawful bases under the UK GDPR: Performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b)) — to operate your account, deliver the service, process purchases, and provide support. Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) — to detect and prevent fraud, protect the safety of members, maintain platform integrity, analyse usage to improve the service, and communicate with you about the service. Consent (Article 6(1)(a) and Article 9(2)(a)) — for optional cookies, marketing communications, and the processing of special-category data (sexual orientation) for matching purposes. Legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c)) — to comply with UK law, respond to lawful requests from authorities, and meet tax, accounting and anti-fraud requirements. Vital interests (Article 6(1)(d)) — in rare circumstances involving imminent risk to life.
4. How We Use Your Data Personal data is used to:
create and administer your account and profile; match you with other members based on preferences you provide; deliver private messaging, gifts, and other in-service features; process purchases of virtual items and premium features; verify identity, prevent fraud, and enforce our Content Moderation Policy and Community Guidelines; respond to your support requests and appeals; monitor and analyse usage patterns to improve the platform; send service-related notifications, security alerts, and material changes to our terms; send marketing communications where you have consented; comply with legal obligations, court orders, and law-enforcement requests.
5. Automated Decision-Making We use automated systems to detect fraud, spam, prohibited content, and safety risks. Matching suggestions are generated automatically based on preferences you provide. These systems do not make decisions producing legal effects on you without human oversight. You may request human review of any moderation decision under our Content Moderation Policy.
6. Sharing Your Data We share personal data with the following categories of recipients: Payment processors — to process purchases. Payment card data goes directly to the processor. Cloud hosting and infrastructure providers — to host the platform and store data securely. Analytics and performance monitoring providers — for aggregate, largely anonymised usage insights. Content moderation vendors — where we use third-party services to assist with photo screening or content review. Professional advisers — lawyers, accountants, auditors, and insurers, under confidentiality obligations. Law enforcement, regulators, and courts — where required by law, court order, or to protect our rights or the safety of members. Corporate transactions — in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality. We do not sell your personal data to third parties. Profile data you make public is visible to other registered members according to the privacy settings you choose.
7. International Transfers Where we transfer personal data outside the United Kingdom or European Economic Area, we do so using appropriate safeguards under Article 46 of the UK GDPR, including the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses with the UK Addendum, or transfers to jurisdictions covered by a UK adequacy decision. You may request a copy of the transfer safeguards by writing to info@couplinn.com.
8. Retention We retain personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy or as required by law. Active accounts: for the duration of the account. Closed accounts: basic identity and transactional data may be retained for up to 6 years after closure to meet UK accounting, tax, and dispute-defence obligations. Moderation records: decisions, evidence, and correspondence relating to breaches of our Content Moderation Policy may be retained for up to 5 years after account closure to detect repeat conduct and defend appeals. Support communications: up to 3 years. Content flagged as illegal: preserved for as long as required by law or requested by authorities.
9. Your Rights Under the UK GDPR you have the right to: request access to your personal data; request correction of inaccurate data; request erasure of your data ("right to be forgotten"), subject to legal exceptions; restrict or object to processing based on legitimate interests; request portability of data you provided directly; withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, without affecting prior lawful processing; not be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing that produces legal effects; lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK supervisory authority. To exercise your rights, contact info@couplinn.com. We respond within one month, extendable by two months for complex requests. The ICO can be contacted at https://ico.org.uk or by telephone at 0303 123 1113.
10. Security We apply technical and organisational measures appropriate to the risk of processing, including encryption of data in transit and at rest, access controls, logging, staff training, and regular security review. Where a personal data breach is likely to result in a high risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify you and, where required, the ICO within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach.
11. Children The platform is intended for adults aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a person under 18 has created an account, we will terminate the account and delete their data. If you believe a member is under 18, please report the account via the in-service report control or write to info@couplinn.com.
12. Marketing If you consent, we may send you marketing emails about new features, promotions, or events. You can withdraw consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in each message or by updating your notification preferences in your account.
